Heat bluing is a controlled rust process primarily associated with vintage and collectible firearms. Heating certain metals can reveal certain characteristics. Using a torch like a paintbrush, the color of bare metal can be changed through the entire spectrum of blue. This technique is not only unique to the Montana Watch Company, but by heating and quenching each case individually it ensures that each timepiece is unique from the rest.
